Shed Media Scotland are thrilled with Waterloo Road Reunited’s multi platform production and its success. Multi platform production has allowed the production team to use innovative ways to engage in dialogue with the shows many fans: providing additional narrative in a digital space. Waterloo Road Reunited’s blog was written in character and blog posts including private messages between cast members were delivered throughout transmission. Fans were free to post their comments about the show and blog through the official BBC website as well as social networking sites. The BBC has never before used Blogging written in character. Furthermore, publicity for the show on radio was also carried out in character.
Waterloo Reunited, when transmitted, achieved the highest hits than any other BBC blog. In its first week of transmission Waterloo Road Reunited had just under 100,000 unique web users, beating every other BBC show’s online blog user numbers including Becoming Human, Being Human and Eastenders. One reason for the success of Waterloo Road Reunited, which has not only met but exceeded expectations, is fan involvement. Fans were actively encouraged to engage in dialogue about plot and characters. This was a show inspired by young adults and made for young adults. Shed Media Scotland are committed to providing new and innovative multi platform productions to reach bigger and wider audiences and hope to build on the success of Waterloo Road Reunited in the future.
